2026 Monona Grove Football Schedule Preview

Monona Grove enters the 2026 season ranked No. 4 in the Bound Wisconsin Division 2 preseason rankings.

The Silver Eagles are coming off one of their strongest seasons in recent years. Monona Grove dropped only one regular-season game in 2025, a narrow 14–13 loss to longtime rival Waunakee, before advancing to the postseason. MG’s season ended with another close result, a 14–10 playoff loss to Homestead.

That success has positioned the Silver Eagles among the leading Division 2 programs entering 2026.

Monona Grove’s nine-game regular-season schedule features two nonconference matchups against Janesville Parker and Madison La Follette, followed by seven Badger Large Conference games.

The Silver Eagles open with consecutive Thursday games before beginning conference play. The schedule includes five home games and four road games, with home matchups against Janesville Parker, Milton, Oregon, Sun Prairie East and DeForest.

Monona Grove finished the 2025 regular season 8–1, earning victories over eight of the nine opponents appearing on the 2026 schedule. Watertown is the only 2026 opponent MG did not face last season.

Janesville Parker at Monona Grove

Monona Grove begins the 2026 season at home against Janesville Parker for the third consecutive year.

The Silver Eagles have controlled the first two games in the developing series. MG defeated Parker 37–7 at home in 2024 and followed with a 31–7 road victory at Monterey Stadium in 2025.

The matchup gives Monona Grove an opportunity to establish momentum before facing a more familiar Madison-area opponent one week later.

Monona Grove has won all five meetings since the series began in 2021. MG has scored at least 42 points in every game and has posted back-to-back 42–0 shutouts.

The Silver Eagles won 42–0 at Lussier Stadium in 2024 before producing the same result at Monona Grove in 2025.

The Silver Eagles have won four of their last five meetings against the Red Hawks, including consecutive close victories over the past two seasons. MG defeated Milton 26–21 at home in 2024 and earned a 36–29 road victory in 2025.

Milton has historically been one of Monona Grove’s more frequent opponents among current schedule teams. The Silver Eagles hold a 13–3 all-time advantage in the series, but recent results indicate that the conference opener could be competitive.

The Silver Eagles return home to face Sun Prairie East in a matchup that has recently been one of the more difficult series on the schedule.

Sun Prairie East won the first four recorded meetings before Monona Grove broke through in 2025 with a 21–16 home victory. That result was MG’s first win over Sun Prairie East and moved the all-time series record to 4–1 in favor of Sun Prairie East.

The 2026 game will test whether the Silver Eagles can build on last season’s breakthrough and begin shifting a series that has recently favored Sun Prairie East.

Although the series history is limited, Monona Grove enters the matchup having outscored Sun Prairie West 76–15 over two games.

Friday, October 9

Monona Grove at Waunakee

The trip to Waunakee is the most historically difficult matchup on Monona Grove’s 2026 schedule.

Waunakee holds a 28–7 all-time advantage over Monona Grove and has won the last five games in the series. However, the 2025 matchup showed how much Monona Grove had closed the gap.

After losing the previous four meetings by margins of 21, 63, 13 and 28 points, the Silver Eagles went to Waunakee in 2025 and fell just short, 14–13.

The 2026 rematch again takes place at Waunakee and could have significant implications in the Badger Large standings. It will also provide MG with another opportunity to earn its first victory in the series since a 45–20 playoff win in 2016.

DeForest at Monona Grove

Monona Grove closes the regular season at home against DeForest in a matchup that has produced several memorable recent games.

The Silver Eagles have won three consecutive meetings, including a 70–62 shootout in 2023, a 31–24 road win in 2024 and a convincing 38–8 victory in 2025.

Monona Grove leads the all-time series 14–11, although the last five meetings have been more balanced. DeForest won in 2021 and 2022 before MG responded with three straight victories.

With the game positioned in Week 9, the regular-season finale could affect conference placement, playoff qualification and postseason seeding.

Monona Grove will have an opportunity to begin the season quickly, but the schedule becomes increasingly demanding as it progresses. The late road games against Sun Prairie West and Waunakee, followed by the DeForest finale, should provide a strong test heading into the 2026 postseason.
