Monona Grove heads back on the road Friday night with plenty still in front of it.

The Silver Eagles are 6–0 overall, 4–0 in the Badger Large and ranked #3 in Division 2 in the latest Wisconsin Football Coaches Poll and the #3 Ranked Team in the 2026 WIAA Division 2 Playoff Matrix

Through six weeks, MG has scored at least 42 points in every game and is coming off a 56–21 win over Sun Prairie East — a game that gave the Silver Eagles one of their few uncomfortable stretches of the season. The Cardinals erased an early 14-point deficit and tied the game 21–21. MG’s response was 35 unanswered points.

Through six weeks, MG is averaging 46.0 points per game. For perspective, the highest full-season scoring average in Monona Grove history is 50.0, set by the 2017 team.

A Different Kind of Road Game

Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium is the shared home field for both Sun Prairie East and Sun Prairie West, but despite MG’s recent history with both programs, this will be a new varsity environment for almost the entire roster. Just four current Silver Eagles — Logan Donkersgoed, Deangelo “D-Lo” Clay, Hans Haffele and Makai Fowler — have ever played a varsity game at Wisconsin’s premier high school football stadium.

A Short Series, But Plenty of History Already

Monona Grove and Sun Prairie West have met only twice. MG won 45–15 at Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium in 2024 and followed with a 31–0 shutout at John Klement Stadium last season. Through two meetings, the Silver Eagles lead the series 2–0 and have outscored West 76–15.

In 2024, West stayed within 17–9 at halftime before MG’s running game took control. The Silver Eagles finished with 286 rushing yards, led by Tremayne Habeck’s 179 yards and two touchdowns and Jace Thomsen’s 115 rushing yards.

Last season, West forced punts on MG’s first two possessions and twice moved into field-goal range before Makai Fowler changed the game with an 80-yard touchdown run.

Fowler finished with 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Jaxon Zukowski threw for 184 yards, Diego Adame turned two receptions into 114 yards, and MG’s defense piled up seven sacks, 10 tackles for loss and three interceptions in the 31–0 victory.

MG Is All Over the Conference Stats Leaderboard

Oregon junior running back Jayce Oparie-Addoh leads the conference with 792 rushing yards, an 8.0-yard average and 11 touchdowns, but the next two spots belong to MG.

Jaxon Zukowski is second with 588 yards and 11 touchdowns on 59 carries, averaging 10.0 yards per attempt. Carson Schoenherr is third with 553 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 7.5 yards per carry. Waunakee senior Eli Drangstveit sits fourth with 511 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Passing numbers tell a similar story.

Watertown QB Aiyden Parr-Mitchell leads the Badger Large in raw yardage with 894, along with five touchdown passes, a 39.0% completion rate and a 101.9 passer rating.

Zukowski has 805 passing yards and leads the conference with 13 touchdown passes. He has completed 64.2% of his attempts and carries a conference leading 193.2 passer rating.

Oregon’s Gavin Lehmann is 43-of-81 passing for 551 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions, with a 53.1% completion rate and a 123.2 passer rating.

Waunakee quarterback Aaron Trudell has completed 32 of 63 passes for 299 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions — a 50.8% completion rate and a 100.03 passer rating.

MG is also well represented among the conference’s receiving leaders.

Watertown’s Alexander David leads the conference with 476 receiving yards. Nic Busalacchi ranks second with 274 yards and four touchdowns, while Diego Adame is fourth with 212 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 17.7 yards per reception.

Through six games, the Silver Eagles have rushed for 1,598 yards and 25 touchdowns, averaging 7.5 yards per carry. Carson Schoenherr has given MG an every down rushing threat. D-Lo has four rushing touchdowns on limited carries, while Mario Melone has added 150 yards while averaging nearly eight yards per attempt.

Put it all together and MG has two of the top three rushers in the conference, two of the top four receivers and the Badger Large leader in touchdown passes.

The offense has backed those rankings up on the scoreboard: 42, 52, 42, 42, 42 and 56 points through six weeks.

MG Production Extends Beyond the Conference

The numbers stand out statewide, too.

Jaxon Zukowski’s 24 total touchdowns rank second among Wisconsin Division 2 players, trailing only Green Bay Notre Dame running back Kingston Allen, who has 32.

On defense, D-Lo leads all of Wisconsin Division 2 with 18 tackles for loss. The next-highest total is 12.

Clay also has 45 total tackles through six games. Landry Ganshert is second on the team with 38, while Dom Melone has 36.

Sun Prairie West Enters Friday 1–5

The Wolves opened with a 7–3 loss to Madison Memorial, lost 55–7 to Catholic Memorial, then earned their lone victory with a 36–14 win over Watertown. Since then, West has lost 34–6 to Milton, 36–0 to Sun Prairie East and 49–0 to Waunakee. Friday will be the Wolves’ third straight game at Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium.

Senior quarterback Colton Rockwell was injured during the Catholic Memorial game and has not played since. Junior Greysen Rowe has taken over and enters Week 7 with a 32.9% completion rate, the lowest in the conference, along with 311 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Sophomore Terrence Jackson has handled most of the rushing workload with 63 carries but has produced just 168 yards. West’s biggest home-run threat has been senior Jahleel Weah. His opportunities have been limited — only 19 carries — but he has turned them into 256 yards and three touchdowns, including an 80-yard score.

MG’s defense has been at its best when it forces opponents to earn every yard. Friday’s challenge is making sure West does not erase several good defensive snaps with one explosive play.

There is also a striking scoring contrast: Sun Prairie West has scored 52 points through six games.

MG scored 56 last Friday.

On Defense, West Can Create Problems

Sophomore Michael Kearns leads West with 42 tackles and five tackles for loss. Julian Barbic has 41 tackles and seven TFL, while Ty Carpenter also has seven tackles for loss.  As a team, West has registered 47 tackles for loss.

Three Weeks Left

Week 7 begins the final third of the regular season.

MG is 6–0. The offense continues to produce some of the best individual and team numbers in the Badger Large. The defense keeps creating negative plays. And last week’s win over Sun Prairie East showed something else: when an opponent pushed back, MG answered.

Now comes a different test. Take that same standard on the road. Handle a stadium that will be new to almost the entire roster.
